"First of the Gang to Die" -3:38

Louis Carlos Bernal is definitely in my top ten photographers list. I wish he would have had the notoriety he deserved while he was still alive because his images are beautiful and they say so much about our culture. His images create a visual narrative of life in the barrios of the Southwest. He was able to capture, so successfully, the cultural values of Mexican-Americans. His work informs my own in that, the core of his work deals with identity through environmental portraits, more specifically Mexican-American identity.
